If I were doing this assignment with fourth grade, I would
definitely do some things different. First, I would send a newsletter home with
parents explaining this blog to them in full detail. I would send home a list
of instructions pertaining to what the students should do and how they could
access the class wiki. I would also make the number of days we observed be the
same as the number of children in my class, though I would only have the
students select 15 consecutive days to do their wiki. That way, each child
would have one day that they would share about the moon, its phase, and when it
rose and set during class time. As this happened, I would keep a class wiki
that I would do every day when the students shared with me. This would remind
them everyday to be observing the moon. Therefore, other students could see
exactly what it is they are supposed to be doing. I would preselect which day
of the month the students would have so that they could be fully prepared.
While this would be a project mostly from home, I would work with them in
class.
